This story came about as I was writing the original The Last Flight of the Howler. About half-way into the story, I realized that it was going to take more than one novel to reach the end (which had been written as a tribute to George R. Stewart (Earth Abides) many years earlier. I wanted to keep the theme of a post apocalyptic story that Last Flight represented but did not want to sacrifice the adaptation story of taking a society advanced past even ours, and forcing them to adapt to a medieval society without adverse effect on the local peoples.

It is the adaptation element of the story that forced me to recognize that I had multiple stories to tell even to the point where I could have as many Cleric's World stories as there are Star Spawn Saga stories (dealing with Julie). That isn't the case at this time, but I may still write stories about the sky peoples' descendants.

Cleric's World Stories

The Cleric
Clerics World
Elvnisle (not part of the Star Spawn Saga Novels)
Return of the Sky People
Carrollton
The Order of the Knife
The End of the Matter

Locations

Mirror Lake extends from mountainous country to the east out to the sea on the west. The River Blue comes down from the mountains in a westerly flow. Carroll's Lands extends a fair number of miles (one hundred or more) to the north, with a mountainous region to the east and a low coastal range of hills to the west. A broad northern valley, separated by a low rise from Carroll's Lands, drains eastwardly and joins the valley of the River Blue, separating the mountainous country east of the valley from the high mountains. The river that joins the Blue and the one draining Carroll's Lands into Mirror Lake do not have names.

Tannersons - a merchant in Shad mostly selling mens clothing.

Spoiler Alert!

Carrollton Spoliers Page contains a lot of information, including the character list. If you have read Return of the Sky People, then it will be okay to go to the spoiler page. The spoilers will have more effect upon readers of the earlier stories in the Saga.

Things, Sayings, Etc.

Great Hall - this is the reception hall of the castle at Shad. It is also used for feasts and entertaining royal guests. In medieval castles (and in many motion pictures) the Great Hall represents the entrance to the Castle. Off the Hall are kitchens and pantries. While the castle at Shad is laid out somewhat similar, it is significantly different and larger than most castles of Europe.
