Blond hair (short), blue eyes, honey-colored, tanned complexion. Raised on a vast farm on Dracus' Southern continent.
Nikki is an introductory character, of whom Paige mentioned (after reading Star Spawn for the first time), "I'd like to get to know her. I like her a lot." She reminds me a lot of Meg Ryan as she appears in such films as "You've Got Mail" and "Sleepless in Seattle." Meg is one of those actresses who has done a lot of sweet roles and never seems to age. Nikki is similar and very faithful.
Another actress who's TV personality is very similar is Amanda Tapping's character on Star Gate, SG-1, Samantha Carter. Interesting, getting the two of them together pointed up some differences, but there aren't a lot. Visit to a Small Planet was an interesting write, because I hadn't realized how closely the two women are in their interests until Chad and I completed that Novel and I reread it on an editing pass. Nikki's personality was pretty solid from the very beginning, which was the summer of 1990 when I created the character.
To say that she doesn't like to be left behind is probably an understatement, though there are other things that can get to her. The tragic loss of people on Stormy Island affected her deeply and while she didn't hold anything against Kristi Yates for what happened, she had a hard time dealing with the loss.
Another thing that Nikki has a hard time over is letting go being one of the better navigators in the Alliance. We see very little of her skills in the condensed version of Waken, but the full version carries the original material about her.
Her on-going interest in William William Stancer is also lost somewhat in the condensed version of Waken.
